The Primer
The most important component in terms of paint is the first layer. Which is the primer on the wood.
Special feature: In ancient Italian violin making, the primer was mainly applied to protect against woodworms. Despite the thin layer, the primer leads to a refraction of light whereby a bright reflection becomes visible and the colored lacquer is illuminated from below.
Building on the primer, the main focus of the paintwork is on the three-dimensional look and aesthetics of a beautiful, somewhat antique paintwork. The composition of the paint naturally also has a great influence on the sound of the instrument.
According to colleagues, "the refraction of light, especially under spotlight on the stage, looks like a classic old violin."
